Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer

Directors Note:

One of my favorite childhood stories is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I remember watching Rudolph every year as a child, and so it seemed a  natural selection for the children to perform this winter classic for the holidays. It not only has fun holiday songs and moments but  also teaches the importance of not bullying and  how it makes you feel when you are being bullied. The cast and I had discussions  about this as we learned our lines and songs. It’s important for all of us to remember, especially at this time of year, to be kind to each other and to bring joy and smiles and I know that you are all about to smile a whole lot.

I hope that you enjoy our rendition of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and that it brings back fond memories of the holidays for you as well.

Happy Holidays!

Sparkle on Stage presents
The Nutcracker

If you're enjoying today's performance and want to hear more from us, sign up for our mailing list!

CAST AND DIRECTOR

DIRECTOR'S NOTE:

Sparkle on Stage is proud to present “The Nutcrakcer… it's not just a Ballet”.  A story for all based on the tales of E. T. A. Hoffman’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”.  Our cast will tell the story thru song and dance as well as dialogue.  Hence it not being just a ballet.

"The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" was written in 1816 by Prussian author E. T. A. Hoffmann, in which young Marie Stahlbaum's favorite Christmas toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive and, after defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, whisks her away to a magical kingdom where she meets incredible characters in delicious lands of cookies and candy. In 1892, the Russian composer Pyotr  Ilyich Tchaikovsky turned the story into the ballet The Nutcracker.

This year's cast is the first to perform this version of the story at our inaugural Winterfest.  We are excited to have the opportunity to have so many performances scheduled that we were able to double cast the main roles and feature more than one actor in the major roles and showcase their talents.  Our cast is multi-talented and we are very proud to be able to showcase their multifaceted skills on our stage.

Enjoy the performance, please tell a friend to come and enjoy it as well and remember that Sparkle on Stage Cultural Arts Center is a nonprofit and we graciously encourage you to make a donation so that we are able to continue to create more programs like this one in the months and years ahead.  Thank you and Happy Holidays.

Frances and the Sea

Sparkle on Stage presents

DIRECTOR'S NOTE:  Frances and The Sea came about as I sat looking out at the canal behind our beautiful new location on the Nautical Mile.  Every summer I pick songs that the cast may not be familiar with in order to open their eyes to new genres of music.  This year I was busy thinking about the ocean and adventure, which became the basis for this show.  While looking for appropriate sea songs, I found a few that I hadn't heard before.  After I found the songs, I asked my student intern Derik Bazemore listen to them and told him to write a story that would tie them together.  He did ... and Frances and the Sea was born!

This is the first production that has been rehearsed and performed on our stage.  It is exciting to see the new space come alive.  On a personal note, it is a bit cliche to say but it is a dream come true.  I have been working on creating a space like this for over 10 years and finally, the Sparkle on Stage Players have a stage of their own.  Thank you to all those that have believed in my dream and supported my passion over the past decade-plus.  Thank you to those that are helping to support it now and will keep supporting it in the future.   ~Robyn Workman

DIRECTOR'S NOTE:  "Once on This Island" is a story about a girl saved by the G-ds.  She is raised by villagers and ultimately saves a boy from the “other side“ of the island.  She falls in loves with him as she nurses him back to health and hopes that he will fall in love with her and marry her.  Only to find out that the beauxhomme (wealthy) do not marry villagers.  It is a story of cultures mixing, or rather not being allowed to.

The music is what drew me in.  The Caribbean flavors, the rhythmic feels, and the beautiful melodies.  Get lost in the “Jewel of the Antilles’ “ as I have and enjoy Sparkle on Stage's production of Once on This Island.   ~Robyn Workman

The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King

A staged reading of a Christmas Classic

Happy Holidays!   Sparkle on Stage, Inc. proudly presents “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.”    Traditionally performed as a ballet, the piece was written by E.T.A. Hoffmann and accompanied by a score by Pyotor Ilyich Tchaikovsky.  Our rendition of this Christmas classic is filled with humor and reimagines the piece while maintaining its musical aspects.

Theatre is a collaborative art form by nature and so in that spirit, the children and parents had a large part in the creation of what you will see today.  From the props to the choreography, to the musical selections, we worked together as a  team. It was such a joy to watch their imaginations soar and it truly reminds us here at Sparkle on Stage of how vital the arts are to our children's education and growth.
